Bold Linking Trail 29'' 2015

The bike can use a front derailleur. One of the variations uses XTR 26/36.

It is interesting to see just how many good 29ers are emerging at this juncture as the excitement over that wheel size has begun to abate. The Canfield Riot and the Linkin Trail are seriously impressive 29ers (or is that 27+ers), very original but also quite different. Canfield are doing some radical things with geometry (extremely short chainstays for example) whereas the Linkin is more focussed on imaginative use of carbon fiber. As it happens the Linkin also has excellent geometry. The target here appears to be the Stumpjumper and I think the Linkin is the better overall package.

I see a strong contrast between the usage carbon is put to in this bike as against the new Demo, say. In the latter the structural characteristics are carbon partly ameliorate new structural challenges that the design itself introduces. There is nothing like that here. What is interesting about the Linkin is the new design options that are opened up by molding this stuff to meet and overcome existing design challenges. You can sort of do that with Aluminium but weight gain is the likely result. Bold Cycles is setting a good example for others to follow. I can't say that the talk of patents excites me though.

Un saludo

If there is a version with a 2x11 that's good news, having options it's always good. And as you say, Carbon Fiber allows you to think outside of the box, but most of the time you get a pretty standar bike. I think it's because most companies are doing aluminium versions for the entry models, so they need to keep everything the same...

Tony.

Hello,
Do you plan to make graphs for Bold Unplugged volume 1?

Best Regatds,
Angel

I have plans for the next three months and the Bold is not in any of them. If you are interested in the bike and don't want to wait too long go to my Patreon and ask me there...

Best regards,
Tony.
