Norco Sight C 29'' 2020

Hi Antonio,

Thank you for an amazing analysis!

I want to ask you how to improve the anti-squat level of Norco Sight 2020. Right now, I’m on Mondraker Dune 2016, which is super effective while pedaling. The anti-squat levels on Mondraker Dunes are very high on lower gears, which causes super effective acceleration during sprinting on harder gears (12/30, 14/30, 16/30). It feels like a rocket! It seems Norco will be much less effective on those gears, especially using 32t chainring. Can changing to a 30t chainring reduce suspension bob during hard pedaling on lower gears and help make it feel more like Mondkarer during acceleration?

I've updated the AS table so you can see it by yourself. I think using a 30T is going to improve the system a little bit, but if you want to get the same results as the Mondraker Dune you probably need to go for a 28T.

Best regards,
Tony.

Hello man, would you say it is fine to run a coil shock on the sight due to the last part of the stroke not being progressive?
Im ridingt mostly techy, steep stuff but i dont want to sacrifice pop and general jumping performance too much

thanks in advance for your answer and have a nice day

Antonio Osuna dijo...

A coil is going to work really well and it's not going to sacrifice any playfulness at all. It's going to give you a lot of mid stroke support and that's what makes a bike fun in trails with a lot of flow and small jumps.

Make sure you pick one with the right tune for your weight and have fun.

Best regards,
Tony.

Didn't the Sight and Range models from 4-5 years ago have close to 200% anti-squat in most gear combinations?

I'd guess that's too much of a good thing and figure the newer version with closer to 100% AS would be an improvement overall.
I certainly feel my 2017 Range is more balanced than the 2015 model that I had beforehand while still pedalling efficiently.

Has the AS level dropped at all between the 2018-19 Sight and the latest version?

Sorry for asking in english. But do you think a Megneg/larger negative chamber would do this bike good? This way you could increase the positive air chamber by adding air pressure and removing a token or two while still keeping sag at 30%.

Antonio Osuna dijo...

A few years ago the Megneg air chamber would have been a game-changer, but right now Fox and RS have improved a lot their air shocks and the Megneg it's not going to be that good. For a couple of frames with weird Leverage Ratios it's a really good option, but for everything else it's "marginal gains".

If you think that your bike needs or deserve a better shock, get a better shock. It's a lot more money, but it's going to be better.

Best regards,
Tony.
