Nukeproof Mega 290 2016

Hi Antonio,
thanks for loading it up, since I have one and I am always interested in suspension tuning.
According the damper, though: It definitely has more than 51mm of stroke. CRC say 56mm and that is what I can roughly get out of the damper as well, so are you sure about the 140mm of travel?
Also Nukeproof changed the air can for production to a standard HV air can, although I also thought the debon air would suit the design quite well.
They explained that with avoidance of blowing through the first part of the travel too easily. My understanding is that the debon air would only influence the regressive part of the curve anyway and you could still decrease the size of the additional neg chamber via spacers. So I am not too conviced and wonder if I should play around with the debon air can nevertheless.
Your thoughts would be much appreciated, thanks in advance...

greetings,

Jan

You are completely right, the shock measures 200mm and I wasn't sure if it had 51mm or 57mm of travel. I looked in a few places and couldn't find the shock size so I went with 51mm, but it was 57mm. I have updated the graphs and as you see everything is pretty much the same, the LR is a bit more Progressive because it goes deeper in travel, but that's all.

The difference between the HV and the Debonair is not huge, but I still prefer the debonair for this frame. It keeps the mid-stroke working a lot better.

Best regards,
Tony.

Hi,

I have been running the debon air can with 4/2 spacers (positive/negative)for a while now and I find it by far better than the original HV air can (with 7 spacers).
Immediatly noticable differences are the better small bump compliance and way more midstroke support. One can feel that the first time you are rolling along and push into the suspension. Apperently it doesen't blow throuh anymore to the last 10mm of stroke on the smallest events.
I wonder why anybody, especially racers, would chose the original HV air can over the debon air, this is completely beyond me...

best regards,

Jan

Hello,

Which shock will suite better to this frame - FOX DHX2 or FOX Float X2?

Best regards,
Matija

Coil shocks works better with this type of LR... You have better performance at the beginning of the travel and more mid-stroke support to compensate the first half of the LR curve and pretty good bottom-out protection because the last part of the LR curve is very progressive.

Best regards,
Tony.

Just be careful with interference of other shocks with the upper shock mount, I tried to fit a Vivid Coil in a size M frame and in all 4 positions it does not fit.In the main fitting direction the damper body (diameter) collides with the vertical ribs of the upper shock mount of the frame. In case of the Vivid there were roughly 4mm interference. Bummer.
The newer Fox shocks have a smaller diameter on the body to the eye. So might fit, but could be very close...

Thank both for help. Since 2016 frameset od Mega 290 (size XL) is sold out, I will have to wait for 2017 model (first orders will be available after Eurobike). Since I'll order XL size frame there hopefully should be enought space for DHX2 coil shock. We will see.

Sounds great, give it a try. It is an awesome bike and worth the waiting time, have fun with yours when you get it...cheers!

I have seen Mega 290 with X2 float, so I think it will fit. I have a CCDB on a Mega 275 and it works very well, it took quite a long time to set up the rebound correctly.]

Mark Robertson.. ..I bought 2017 Mega 275 frame and custom build my bike with CCDB Coil CS. Could you tell your shock settings (just to try them out)?

Anónimo dijo...

Hi Matija, I have changed bikes since and don't have the exact settings written down. I guess:

HSC 2 turns from closed (HSC should be tuned to your riding style and terrain)
LSC 13 clicks from closed
HSR 2.5 turns from closed
LSR 15 clicks from closed

I hope that helps. I was running a 450 spring which was had not much sag (24%), my friend has the bike now and is heavier than me, but runs a 400 spring.

Cheers,

Mark

Do you know if the Mega 290 was designed around the Monarch? I'm interested in trying a coil but am worried about it not being "right" for the Mega.

Can anyone comment after installing a coil shock on the Mega 290 2016?

Thanks

Hola Nathan!

Jaja.
