If you ask a Specialized Engineer to design you a Split pivot Bike he is going to use a low Pivot.

Regarding the Pedal Kickback issue, I think it's not unavoidable, Virtual pivots can reduce it a bit in the last port of the travel. Around the Sag point they are going to have the same Kickback if they have the same amount of Anti-Squat, but you are mostly righ, Anti Squat is much more important than Kickback and we simply have to live with it.Antonio Osunahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10075236093614144240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4650400550712092979.post-13795984019242470062011-10-09T04:45:28.613+02:002011-10-09T04:45:28.613+02:00Reduction in pedal kickback seems to have been tra...Reduction in pedal kickback seems to have been traded off against loss of anti-squat in the 2012 OST models - not a very good deal in my view. Although, flattening of the anti-squat curve has some benefits I suppose.

One thing I find perplexing about horst-link designs is how little enthusiasm there is for raising the (commonly quite low) main pivot to deal with the (again quite common) underprovision of anti-squat.

There is a very close affinity (despite obvious differences) between horst-link long beam four bars and long beam four bars using a concentric pivot at the rear axle. Dave Weagle has no trouble with raising that main pivot (granted it comes at the cost of some pedal kickback) so what is the impediment to doing the same with horst-link bikes? Your recent look at the correlation of anti-squat and pedal kickback (if I am reading it right) anyway suggests that (within the bounds of conventional rear suspension design) the trade off between the two is unavoidable. This says to me that any taboo on raising that main pivot is misguided and designers must simply accept the costs that go with the gains.Chrisnoreply@blogger.com
